Planning fee calculator

If you plan to start work on a property, you may need to pay a fee for your application.

NEW - Changes to Planning Fees in Scotland have come into effect from the 12th December 2024.

More information on the fee changes is available in the The Town and Country Planning (Fees for Applications) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2024 and Planning Circular.

What can I use this service for?

This tool helps you find out how much your planning applications will likely cost.

This tool supports all applications that can be made through the ePlanning portal including both residential and non-residential properties.

In some instances, you may be able to obtain a discount for your fee or you may not have to pay a fee at all. For example, if:

  • Your development is providing for someone with a disability.
  • An application for the same work has been rejected in the last 12 months.

The fee calculator can be used to calculate this.

Your fee will be estimated

The fees obtained from using this service should be treated as an estimate only.

We would recommend contacting your planning authority directly if you have questions about the application or wish to confirm the fee.

Before you begin

This tool is only as accurate as the information that you enter. To use this service, you'll need to know:

  • The application that you wish to make.
  • Details such as the number of dwellings and area measurements.
  • The type of work that you're planning to do.

The more information you can provide us with, the more accurately we can estimate your fee.
